The Capodimonte Museum was built in 1738 in a picturesque location overlooking the Gulf of Naples and the city below. Originally intended as a hunting lodge, the building became a museum thanks to the extraordinary art collection of the Farnese and Bourbon, two of the most influential families of the Italian Renaissance.
The extraordinary art pieces of the Museum range from painting to sculpture, but also include drawings, weapons and refined decorative arts.
A big plus is the section devoted to contemporary art, which houses extraordinary masterpieces realized by some of the most renowned artists of the international scene, including Andy Warhol.
