Things to know about Ponte Vecchio

Authentic icon of the Florentine landscape, the Ponte Vecchio (which means "old bridge") is the oldest of Florence's six bridges across the Arno River.

The bridge is believed to have been first built in Roman Times. Since the 13th century there have been stores of all kind, crowdedalong the portico of Ponte Vecchio. Later on, in the 15th century, most of those shops have been continuouslyaltered withexternal terraces and raised parts, extending towards the river and transforming the original Ponte Vecchio's architecture into a chaotic and asymmetric (yet inimitable) bridge.

Open all of the time, Ponte Vecchio make a very suggestive route for a nice stroll, especially with the romantic evening light.
