Things to know about Galleria dell'Accademia

The Galleria dell'Accademia is, together with the Uffizi, the most visited museums in Florence. The main attraction of the museum is the universally-famous David, a magnificent giant statue, created by Michelangelo in 1504.

However, the Galleria dell'Accademia offers much more in the less-crowded areas, such as other works of art by Michelangelo: for example, in the Hall of the Prisoners, you will have the opportunity to admire his unfinished statues, called "the Slaves".

The Galleria dell'Accademia houses also several interesting collections of paintings. Not to be missed is certainly the "Rape of the Sabine Women", a stunning marble sculpture by Giambologna, and the Botticelli's masterpieces, the "Madonna and Child" and the "Madonna of the Sea".
