The city of Lecce is located in the center of the wonderful Salento peninsula, one of the regions of Apulia. It is one of the most charming cities in all Southern Italy, also known as the "Florence of the South" or the "Baroque Florence".
Its historic center boasts a mix of different nationalities and cultures, among which stands the exuberance of the Baroque style, of the churches and palaces built with local stone.
Lecce, for its beautiful heritage was among the six cities Italian candidate for "European Capital of Culture" for the year 2019, but was declared "Italian Capital of Culture" in 2015.
